I bought this to use on my ps4 that had the stock 500gb drive installed. My son has way too many of the lego brick games and just got two more for his birth day. I connected this to my laptop upon arrival and ran easeus partition manager technician edition 12. There was a fat32 partition as expected but after running a format on it i was able to gain about 500mb more space than with the factory formatting. I then connected this to the ps4 and accessed the setting. The ps4 found the drive and recognized it then asked to format it for use as storage with the ps4 games. After about 30 seconds of ‘formatting’ (changing the partition table ids) the drive was ready for use as a game storage unit. I was able to install all the games and updates needed for them. We have been using the drive everyday for the last few weeks and have seen no issues with this at all.
Well the shipping was great. I read the small paper that it came wit. Shut off my computer connected to a unused usb port and started my computer. Then expecting something great. Went for coffee and i don’t even drink coffee. Well i will re investigate tomorrow when i get back to work. I was really looking forward to this working but i am now very disappointed in toshiba. Ok update today april 2 2019. After searching on the web on the problem i found the answer and was able to download drivers and see the hard drive.
I don’t have a lot to say about this, since it met every one of my expectations right out of the box. It needed no software, it was plug n play, it has enough room for all of my 15 years of photos (and believe me, i needed this space). Overall this operates just as it is described, and has saved me a lot of fumbling with flash drives that the pics were stored on previously. Now, my flash drives are filled with what they should have been filled with – work. And my pictures are in a safe and backed up place. And as an edit and update here. My last portable drive like this has about a quarter of the room of this one, and has no way of the user telling when it is being accessed. This toshiba external hard drive, is complete with a blue light that blinks (helpful to me especially as i may have 3-4 flash drives attached as well as this). But most important, the size is wonderful.
Let me change your life a little right now. All external drives like this are set in windows for quick removal, so you don’t (maybe) lose data if you forget to properly eject it first. To speed up drives like this, sometimes dramatically, go to device manager, select storage devices, then click your removable drive. Click properties and then policies. Change it from “optimized for quick removal “ to “optimized for performance”. Click ok for the warning and to accept the new setting. Enjoy your new faster speeds, but don’t forget to always use “safely eject hardware” before unplugging your drive from your computer. You can change this setting also via disk management tool (right-click the windows start menu). Needs to be done for every new removable drive, but only once.
I’ve been needing to upgrade my external backup solution for some time now. So when i saw this drive, i had to order it so i could retire my aging 500 gb external drive (which was also from toshiba)pros:-this drive has excellent read/write performance when compared with my old drive (crystaldiskmark images attached)-this drive was very easy to encrypt with windows bitlocker, only took a minute to encrypt it. -came with a new usb type a to microusb type b cable. Cons:-construction: the outer plastic body feels cheap and is flexible.
